How Does Invisalign Work?

The process is simple. First, Dr. Rutkowski will make molds of your teeth and mouth. These molds will be made into custom clear plastic aligners using state-of-the-art technology. The digital molds will also allow us to map out your entire treatment, so you know exactly what to expect throughout the process.

During treatment, you’ll wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day and stop by Pure Dental Spa to pick up new aligners each time you need to swap them out for the next set in the series. Once you complete your treatment, you will likely be required to wear a retainer to help keep your teeth in their new position until they are permanently in place.

Indications for Invisalign

If you struggle with any of the following dental problems, you’ll be pleased to know that Invisalign in Ukrainian Village is capable of treating all of these and more:

Crowded Teeth

If your oral health is suffering because your teeth sit too close to one another, it’s time to consider Invisalign. Brushing and flossing are pivotal if you want to reduce your risk for tooth decay, gum disease, and cavities, so when it’s impossible to accomplish because of overcrowding, you can turn to clear aligners for help. By shifting your teeth over time, they will begin to realign and create necessary space, making it easier to maintain a healthier smile.

Gaps Between Teeth

Gaps between teeth are equally as detrimental to your oral health as crowded teeth because they often trap harmful bacteria and food particles. But by choosing Invisalign, the aligners can gently move your teeth closer together, eliminating the gap and making it possible to clean your teeth and gums properly. This, in turn, minimizes your chances of developing serious gum disease and tooth decay while also giving you a smile you can be proud to show off.

Bite Alignment

If your bite is even slightly off, you’ll begin to notice it in the way you eat and speak. You may even discover that your teeth appear more worn, and you feel more pain within your jaw joints. If left untreated, this can lead to bruxism and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). But with Invisalign, these bite alignment issues (i.e., overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite) can be remedied to improve your overall quality of life.

The Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign offers more than just a discreet way to straighten your teeth. Patients who have entrusted Pure Dental Spa with their clear aligner treatment also experience these additional benefits:

  • Less irritation because there are no brackets or wires to rub against soft oral tissues (i.e., cheeks, gums, lips, tongue)
  • Often quicker results as opposed to traditional braces (i.e., 6-18 months vs. 2-3 years)
  • A flexible solution that allows you to remove your trays before eating, which eliminates the frustration of removing food from between brackets and wires
  • An easy-to-clean orthodontic treatment that only requires a soft-bristled toothbrush, clear soap, and lukewarm water

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

When calculating the time it’ll take to complete your Invisalign treatment, there are several factors you must take into consideration, such as the severity of your dental misalignment and your commitment to the treatment plan. On average, it takes patients somewhere between 12 to 18 months to finish their Invisalign in Lincoln Park. While that may sound like a long time, it’s still about four months shorter than the average treatment with traditional metal braces. You can speed up the process by diligently following treatment instructions and visiting your orthodontist regularly.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

Not at all! Thanks to the smooth plastic design, it’s actually one of the most comfortable orthodontic treatment options. When you first get Invisalign in Chicago, you may experience mild soreness and discomfort that some patients might characterize as pain. However, it should go away as you adjust to your treatment. Since the clear aligners gradually shift your teeth into proper alignment, you’ll likely experience a small amount of pressure each time you advance to a new set of trays. You can make this adjustment process easier by taking over-the-counter pain medication and drinking ice-cold water.

What Are Invisalign Attachments?

At first, Invisalign was only an option for patients with mild cases of dental misalignment. However, attachments and buttons help those with severe malocclusions or bite issues enjoy treatment. Invisalign attachments are small bumps of tooth-colored resin that are bonded to the teeth in strategic places, guiding them into place with the help of the clear aligners. On the other hand, buttons are used to attach or anchor rubber bands. They allow patients with bite issues to still benefit from this modern orthodontic treatment. It’s worth noting that these extra features do not damage or alter the natural tooth enamel in any way.

What Happens After Invisalign?

Once you’ve completed Invisalign treatment, you’ll visit our team to confirm your results. We’ll ensure your teeth are in their proper positions before explaining how to maintain your new smile. If you want to preserve your hard-earned results for years to come, you’ll need to wear your retainer as instructed. In many cases, patients are asked to wear it full time before gradually decreasing to only wearing it at night. Of course, your dentist will let you know what’s recommended based on your specific needs.
