General Dentist – Chicago, IL

Get to Know
Jamie Covington, DDS

Dr. Covington says that the best thing about her job is getting to flip the centralized paradigm that dentistry is a painful and scary experience. She loves treating people and hearing them say, “That wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be!” afterward. She’s eager to help you look and feel your absolute best, and below, you can learn a little more about her background.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Both of Dr. Covington’s parents were involved in healthcare, and this had a huge influence on her. Ultimately, she decided to become a dentist to follow in her late father’s footsteps. He always was and still is her personal hero! He was in a gang, dropped out of high school, and eventually ended up in prison. But, against the odds, he acquired his GED, enrolled at UIC, and ended up earning his DDS degree from Northwestern Dental School.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Covington attended the University of Illinois Chicago for her undergrad, and she was accepted into the dental program at Howard University. Since graduating, she has completed several hours of continuing education. She is Invisalign Certified and has taken courses on endodontics (root canals) and oral surgery.

Outside the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

When she isn’t spending time with her partner or their dog, Anastasia, Dr. Covington likes to do anything artsy. She enjoys drawing, knitting, and even writing—she hopes to publish her own graphic novel one day! Another hobby is taking old clothes and repurposing them by adding paint or embroidery. Lately, she has been practicing on her partner’s clothes, and he loves them (he has no choice).
